Well, I'm going to keep the newsletter going a little while longer. I discovered the Netscape Composer program. It will make it easier for me to put the newsletter together -- I won't have to do any manual HTML code writing. I still need interesting input from YOU! After the Hints, Tricks and URLs appear in the newsletter I will be storing them in a linked list on the server. New items can be added to the newsletter each month, and the old ones can be added to the cumulative archive list. It makes sense to do it this way so the old material can be handy for reference. The newsletter is currently set up for 800 x 600 viewing. I can change it to 640 x 480 if doing so would be better for YOU. Please let me know you thoughts on this. I will be experimenting with other changes in the format of the newsletter. Please feel free to let me know what you think of the changes. Bill Gouge
The section above is a reprint from last month. I have not received any info or comments form members. My conversations with some members have gotten comments such as "I haven't had time to read the newsletter yet" or "I haven't had time to read ALL of the newsletter yet". I considered NOT doing an issue this month. After all, if people aren't reading it, why waste my time putting it together!! This will be the last monthly issue of the newsletter UNLESS some of you convince me to keep it going. Like I've said before, one person can't produce a quality newsletter on a monthly basis.
Our "socials" are held on the 4th Monday of
each month at the Paragon Restaurant. The restaurant is located on
the southwest corner of Rockville and Girl School roads. That means
the May meeting will be on the 24th. Plan to get there around 6:30
or 7:00. Come and enjoy some good
food and discussion about computers and ham radio (or whatever).
If you've been
I missed the last meeting, but I plan to be at the May meeting. Hope to see you there this time. I have some info about how you can get a FREE computer training CD. It involves calling a toll free number and requesting one. There is a shipping fee of $4.95. The CD contains a one hour lesson with screen shots and full motion video clips. Choices include Win95, Win98, Microsoft Word, Excel and about 8 more subjects. I will have copies of the info available for everyone attending the next meeting.
A few of the club members have web sites. Here are the ones that I know about. If you have one and want to be included in a later issue, please let me know via e-mail ( wrg@wrg.net ). http://www.qsl.net/aa9kb/

I have registered 3 more domains. I will be hosting the web "presence" for several state-level Operation Lifesaver groups. For that reason I have secured the "operationlifesaver.net", "operationlifesaver.com" and "operationlifesaver.org". A person wishing to find Operation Lifesaver can type any of the URLs in the "go to" line of their browser and it will end up at the same place. The domain names follow the accepted convention of not putting spaces between words. My site will have a link to ALL OL groups that have a site -- even if I don't host it. This URL list will soon be saved as an archived file. A link to it will be mentioned in future issues of the newsletter. * John has posted some more Hawaii pictures since the last issue of the newsletter was published. Last month I mentioned that I thought John had scanned post cards and was trying to pass them off as his own work. He assured me that they were not post cards. He did admit that Jane took most of the pictures he had posted. I don't have any photo credit info on the additions.
Not much to report here this month. If you get frustrated with a Microsoft software product you may find this URL handy. Click HEREto punch Bill Gates in the nose! See disclaimer on the destination page. A cumulative list of all previous Tips, Tricks
& URLs can be found by clicking HERE.
Microsoft Office 2000 is coming soon to a retailer near you. Windows 2000 won't be far behind. I will be attending a technical "drill down" on Office 2000 next month. I may have something to say about it in the June newsletter (if there is one). Digital cameras continue to get cheaper as the resolution increases. I use my Sony Mavica FD-91 several times a week. Printer technology continues to improve too. Actually, everything is improving!! I recently got a new Epson Stylus 740 printer. It works well with my Mavica. Pictures printed at 1440 dpi on Kodak Photo Paper look like real photographs. I can shoot a disk of pictures and have the prints in my hands in less than 10 minutes. You are probably getting tired of hearing about what I'm doing and buying. I'm just trying to fill up some space. Send me details of what you are doing and buying and I'll put it in the next newsletter.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE !!!! Send me some material for the next issue of the newsletter!! I don't to make this a one man project.
